NobleBug asked us to assist them in the design of their first iPad app right after that revolutionary device was introduced on the market. Naturally, we hadn't yet had any chance to design user interfaces for it. We wasted no time learning all we could in HIG and dashed to our desks to design.

User interface

Chef for iPad takes both data and recipes from the corresponding website, so we just used its content. Every recipe is carefully broken down into the precise preparation steps. Similarly convenient, the called-for ingredients and their quantities are added to the shopping list.

What if you peer into the fridge and find that a lot of groceries have been accumulating. The solution? Turn them into a tasty dish, of course. And it's easy as pie: just tap the ingredients search, review the list of recipes that pop up and pick out the one that sounds really enticing for the ingredients already on hand.

For dieters, there's a calorie listing, and for those with allergies there are suggestions for which foods it might be better to avoid.

Visual design

We tried to make the UI as close as possible to look’n’feel a native iPad app. The leather binding for the nav bar and look of the oldfashioned paper for displaying recipes help to create the image of granny’s oldtime cook book!
